An Abstract Week
In keeping with the unpredictable nature of 2020, I did a deep dive into abstract painting this past week. I’ve done some abstracts in the past, but usually that was because I had paint leftover from another painting. I’ve never done this many in a small time frame! Abstract art is truly extraordinary for me because there never feels like a right or wrong way to make it. Just pick colors and go.
Then, of course, my second favorite part of the painting process is the naming! Paintings, like books, need a great title! The title helps capture the essence of the work. Naming my abstract pieces is probably the most fun because I have a certain freedom to capture any part of the painting not just the object in the center (like my more realistic works)! However, sometimes I get a bit of “naming block” and so I turn to my wonderful Italian fiancé, Alfredo, for linguistic (and translation) help!
Also I cannot forget my ever watchful and talented pug, Victoria. She is always present to supervise whatever project I am working on. Except this time, she decided to participate and get her paws dirty! 😂. Thank goodness acrylic paints wash right off!
